MONTE-CARLO TELEVISION FESTIVAL CELEBRATES CONTENT AND DIGITAL INNOVATION, LAUNCHING THE INAUGURAL CONTECH ACADEMY TO RUN PARALLEL TO 2016 EVENT

Monaco, 1st March 2016 – The Monte-Carlo Television Festival has today unveiled plans to launch a brand new initiative to complement its 2016 edition – the ConTech Academy will run 14-16 June alongside the Festival’s annual programme of events.

Created to appeal to industry professionals, young creators and the public alike, the ConTech Academy will focus on content and digital innovation in today’s multi-platform world. A programme of keynotes, masterclasses, panels and workshops will take place in the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Leading showrunners, writers, actors and producers will all contribute to this debut event.

Innovation is rapidly changing the way content is created, distributed and consumed. To highlight this evolution, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival also announced today the ConTech Academy Innovation Award, to recognize and reward the best technology solution, hardware or experience that adds value to the expanding content ecosystem. The award covers innovation in analytics, apps, digital, hardware, immersive experiences, multi-platform, social connectivity, security and gamification, focusing on developments which enhance the viewing experience or engage and build communities by empowering creators to produce dynamic content.

Finalists will be selected by a group of senior executives from a wide range of disciplines. Three finalists will then have the opportunity to pitch and demonstrate their new solution in a dedicated session during the ConTech Academy. The ultimate winner will be presented with the inaugural Innovation Award and will also receive a cash prize to further develop their project.

Laurent Puons, CEO, comments, “The Monte-Carlo Television Festival, which is in its 56th year, is well-known for its celebration of creativity and talent from around the world. It is a unique, collaborative and inclusive event, making it the perfect venue to launch the ConTech Academy. With the Festival as a backdrop our aim is to further enhance the knowledge of industry professionals and also to reach out to young creators and the public, inspiring them to learn, to get involved and become part of the flourishing global content business.”
