MONTE-CARLO TELEVISION FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES CRYSTAL NYMPH HONOUREE, JURY LINE-UPS AND GLOBAL PREMIERE OPENING SCREENING AHEAD OF 57TH EDITION

Monaco, 9 May, 2017


Laurent Puons, CEO of the 57th Monte-Carlo Television Festival (16th - 20th June), today announced the recipient of its prestigious Crystal Nymph Award and unveiled the names of jury members for the Fiction and News categories of this year's Golden Nymph Awards. He also revealed an extensive line-up of premiere screenings and exclusive celebrations taking place during the globally renowned event.

At a presentation hosted in Monaco, Mr. Puons confirmed that acclaimed actress Helen Mirren, winner of Academy, Emmy and Tony Awards, will receive the Festival's Crystal Nymph Award. The Award, which recognizes a stellar body of work by a major international actor or actress, will be presented by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Honorary President of the Festival, as part of the Closing Ceremony on June 20th.

Mr. Puons also announced the names of the jury members who will select the Golden Nymph Awards in 2017. The Fiction Jury panel, comprises a wealth of the industry's foremost acting and production talent, including multi award-winning Argentinian film and television director, writer and producer Juan José Campanella (The Secret in Their Eyes, House, 30 Rock); writer, producer and co-founder of Spain's Bambu Producciones, Ramón Campos; award-winning actress Odile Vuillemin (Profilage, L'Emprise); Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actor John Corbett (United States of Tara, Sex and the City); Emmy-nominated producer and writer Peter M. Lenkov (Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, 24); and Academy Award-nominated actress Shohreh Aghdashloo.

The News Jury panel, which will be led by television host, journalist, editor and executive Etienne Leenhardt, Head of the Foreign News Department at France 2, and includes award-winning director and producer and owner of Norway's Moment Film, Mona Friis Bertheussen (Twin Sisters). Also joining the panel are RTS Award-winning writer, presenter and producer Phil Rees, Manager of Investigations at Al Jazeera, and senior journalist and news presenter for France 24 Television Annette Young, named by UN Women as one of 20 inspirational global voices on women in media in 2015, alongside Eszter Cseke and András Takacs, co-founders of Hungary's Spot Productions and each an acclaimed journalist, director and producer.

Following the Opening Ceremony on June 16th, the Festival will play host to the Global Premiere Opening Screening of Sony Pictures Television Networks' much anticipated new drama thriller series Absentia, with Stana Katic and other cast and crew set to attend.

Mr. Puons also confirmed details of the international television stars, from both on- and off-screen, set to attend the Festival across its four days. These include Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, star of Lionsgate's Power, and Pamela Anderson (Baywatch).

The Festival has partnered with a range of studios and distributors to host a line-up of glittering events and screenings. Distributor all3media International will celebrate the 20th Birthday of Bentley Productions' global hit drama Midsomer Murders at a special Festival event; a glamorous party to acknowledge the 30th Anniversary of The Bold and The Beautiful will also take place in Monaco; while a Hasbro Studios Special Event will invite members of the public to an exclusive screening of episodes of its iconic animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Transformers: Robots in Disguise. In addition, to reflect the importance of their achievements, the nominees of the prestigious Golden Nymph Awards will attend a glittering reception at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel.

Further public screenings taking place include Amazon Studios' The Last Tycoon on Sunday 18th June with lead actor Matt Bomer in attendance.

The five-day event will culminate with the Golden Nymph Awards Ceremony. This star-studded evening will see Golden Nymphs presented across categories including long fiction programs (television films and mini-series), drama and comedy series, and news documentaries, as well as accolades including the International TV Audience Awards, the Prince Rainier III Special Prize, the AMADE Prize, the SIGNIS Prize, the Prize of the Monaco Red Cross and the Press Prize of the ICRC

Presented in partnership with Eurodata TV Worldwide, the 12th International TV Audience Awards will reward the programs that gathered the highest number of viewers worldwide in 2016 across five continents in three categories: Drama TV Series, Comedy TV Series and Telenovelas/Soap Operas. Nominees announced include The X-Files (USA / Drama TV Series), Svaty (Ukraine / Comedy TV Series) and Beni Affet (Turkey / Telenovelas/Soap Operas). For a full list of nominees see here.
