Cop shows are very popular around the world and fans are crazy about them. Here are some of the best and most iconic duos out there.
Sonny Crockett & Rico Tubbs – Miami Vice
It is one of the darkest cop shows ever and the classiest on TV. Don Johnson & Philip Michael Thomas are James "Sonny" Crockett & Ricardo Tubbs and they set fashion trends that are still worn by men today. The show was adapted to a movie in 2006 with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx.
David Starsky & Kenneth Hutch - Starsky & Hutch
Everybody knows the opening song of this famous cop show and we all sing it every time we hear it. Both unconventional characters played by David Soul & Paul Michael Glaser are still vivid in our memory, especially with their iconic car, their 70's hairstyles and their friendship. Movie studios also decided to adapt this series to a movie with Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson.
Christine Cagney & Mary Beth Lacey - Cagney & Lacey
Cop shows aren't only about men. Tyne Daly (Lacey) & Sharon Gless (Cagney, as of season 2) proved it along the hundreds of episodes that aired.4 movies were then adapted with the two actresses as lead roles. And fun little story, Terry's daughters in the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine are named Cagney & Lacey.
Rust Cohle & Marty Hart - True Detective
One of the most intense cop shows of the years 2010, and if it was successful thanks to its dark atmosphere, it's also thanks to its duo played by Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson. Both actors were absolutely stunning and charismatic and their relationship was memorable.
Olivia Benson & Elliot Stabler - Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
On air for years on TF1, the show is quite popular in France but not only. In the US, season 22 is highly anticipated and if Elliot (played by Christopher Meloni) isn't there since season 12, his duo with n'est Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is still a fan favorite. Good news though: he'll be back in season 22 and will be the star of his own show afterwards.
Shawn & Gus - Psych
Less known in France, Psych deserves to be more popular for its crazy originality. Available on Amazon Prime Video in France, the show takes place in the Santa Barbara Police Precinct where two best friends played by James Roday Rodriguez & Dulé Hill help the police investigate crime. One of them pretends to be a psychic (thanks to his amazing photographic memory) and the second one helps him with a more scientific approach. Their relationship is as hilarious as is it explosive and an endless source of fun.
