25/11/2021

It’s not unusual for an actor or actress to leave their own show before the end, even if they play the main character in the story. Fortunately, some of them come back for the final episode.

The end of Season 7 of The Office came as a real shock for all the fans and employees of Dunder Mifflin: Michael Scott decided to leave the company to live his love story with Holly. Steve Carrell left the show before its conclusion, and many actors auditioned to take his place. But the fans were happy to see him return in the last episode, for an ultimate "That's what she said".

Again, seven seasons and out he goes... Ashton Kutcher left That '70s Show to avoid locking himself in the same role for too long and move on to other projects. But the last season was not a great success without many of its original stars and the comedy ended after season 8... After a return of Kelso, the character played by Kutcher, in the last episode.

The fan favorite of Teen Wolf was absent for much of the final season. At the same time, Dylan O'Brien’s movie career was taking off, and his schedule got filled up very quickly. Fortunately, he came back for the final episode of season 6 to reprise his role as Stiles, Scott's (Tyler Posey) best friend, one last time, much to the delight of the fans.

It's hard to imagine CSI without Gil Grissom, yet the charismatic character played by William Petersen left in season 10 of the series, before being replaced by Raymond Langston (Laurence Fishburne) and then D.B. Russell (Ted Danson). He still did a few comebacks, before appearing in the final episode of the series. Recently, he even came back for the revival.

Nina Dobrev, The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev plays the main protagonist of The Vampire Diaries, but she did not hesitate to leave the series two seasons before its end. The young actress no longer had the desire or the motivation to play Elena in this universe filled with vampires and other supernatural creatures. While the show continued as best as it could without her, she still returned in the last episode, to find her love Damon (Ian Somerhalder).
