Iconic duos in television

10/08/2021

Every hero worthy of the name is nothing without their sidekick. Whether they are best friends, co-workers or members of the same family, these TV series duos are just as iconic as each other. Let’s take a look.

Eve and Villanelle from Killing Eve

In Killing Eve, Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) form a duo as explosive as it is delightful. The former is a member of the British secret service who is tasked with getting his hands on the latter, who is none other than a hitwoman who has an almost visceral obsession with the former. The show offers a thrilling pas de deux between the two heroines who form one of the best duos in television!

Will and Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Now there’s a radical change of scenery! We leave for Bel-Air alongside Will Smith in the Prince of Bel-Air. When young Will, who had always known only working-class neighborhoods, arrives at his aunt and uncle’s (the Banks), he meets his cousin Carlton. Everything opposes them, whether it is their social environment, their way of speaking, of dressing and their hobbies. It is precisely this clash of cultures and this unlikely bond that develops between the two that makes this duo so endearing.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson from Sherlock

It's a well-known fact: Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are complementary. In British series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, this already legendary duo continues its rise. Together, Holmes and Watson forge a special relationship born of a working collaboration. While Sherlock Holmes tends to be more antisocial, Watson is more empathetic. An excellent duo who reigns supreme over this BBC show.

Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang from Grey's Anatomy

Ah, Meredith and Cristina... The two doctors of Grey's Anatomy have such a strong bond, their being mentioned here is a total no-brainer. Co-workers, the two quickly build a strong, special, unique friendship. With an exemplary and unstoppable communication, the two women have been able to drive their love for one another to the climax of friendship. There is a reason why "you are my person" is a cult line of this TV show.

Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad

We end this overview with a duo as eclectic as it is exciting: Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. The two protagonists of Breaking Bad have undoubtedly marked the landscape of the series by their unique relationship. A former student of Walter White, Pinkman finds himself involved in his foggy drug business and gets plunged into the swamp by this chemistry teacher who becomes a drug dealer when he learns that he has cancer. Together, the two men go through many painful trials to protect their interests.
